Uniforms of Russian Military School in Tianjin China

Insignia of the permanent and temporary personnel of the Russian Military School

Since Tianjin was not part of the Manchukuo state, Russian military units continued to use the cockades and insignia of the former Russian Army. Since training was carried out according to the infantry officer training programme (upon graduation, cadets received the rank of "lieutenant of the Russian Volunteer Army"), the colour of the insignia was red. This served as a tribute to the traditions of both the Russian and Chinese armies (in the latter, the infantry also used red with black piping). The shoulder-boards shown here are handmade, with braid over a cloth base, Chinese faceted stars and smooth buttons.

The uniforms are shown in accordance with Chinese models and with fabric colours similar to those of the Manchu Imperial Army. Figure 4 has a leather sheath for a bayonet of a Mauser M98 rifle on the belt.
