KOMUCH Academy of the General Staff (August 1918)

komuch general staff uniforms

The uniform and sleeve insignia of the permanent staff of the
All-Russian Academy of the General Staff.

The shields are shown in black velvet with red piping, which were the colors of the former Nikolaev Military Academy of the General Staff.

The Academy was located on the territory controlled by KOMUCH troops after the capture of Kazan by a detachment of the People's Army on 7 August 1918. On 10 August 1918 it was evacuated to Samara, where a decree of the Council of Commissars of 15 August 1918 renamed it the "All-Russian Academy of the General Staff." However, on 22 August 1918 the Academy began moving to Tomsk, so it remains questionable whether the permanent staff of the Academy had time to put on new insignia.

The headquarters of the "People's Army" of the academy was also named "All-Russian", and the Russian national flag on velvet served as an arm-band (Note by Colonel P.F. Ryabikov: "During this period, officers did not wear shoulder-boards but, as in the Czech detachments, ranks were marked by the sleeve markings").
