Order for the Ekaterinburg garrison, Ekaterinburg, 26 July 1918

1. Until the uniform of the People's Volunteer Army is established, the following insignia shall be used to distinguish military ranks and titles:

On the left sleeve above the elbow, chevrons shall be sewn pointing up – metal braid for officers and cloth braid for other soldiers — as follows:

Lance-Corporal – one narrow yellow braid,

Corporal – two narrow braids,

Sergeant – three narrow braids,

Sergeant-Major – one wide yellow braid,

Second-Lieutenant – two narrow braids,

Lieutenant – three narrow braids,

Staff-Captain – four narrow braids,

By order of Major General V. V. Golitsyn, new insignia were announced for the 7th Ural Mountain Rifle Division: raspberry shields with white and green ribbon, braid, stars and ciphers (for example, "5Екб." ["5 Ekb."]).

Order No. 33 of the Commander of the Ekaterinburg Garrison, 13 August 1918

The description and drawings of the arm-band insignia approved by the Military Department of the Provisional Siberian Government on 24 and 27 July 1918 are hereby announced. This insignia is to be worn on the left sleeve, ½ a vershok above the elbow.

The shield is made of coloured cloth, measuring 2-2¼ vershka in height and 1¼ vershka in width. To distinguish between ranks, white and green braid ⅛ a vershok wide is sewn on. Officer ranks have stars:

Ensign - one,

Second-lieutenant - two,

Lieutenant - three,

Staff-captain - four,

Lieutenant-colonel - three.

Braided stripes - captain with two stripes, staff officers with three stripes, generals with zigzag braid.

At the bottom of the sleeve insignia is a stencil of the unit with its number and the first letter of its name.

Cloth colour:

Riflemen - raspberry,

Cossacks - host colour,

Cavalry - blue,

Artillery and engineers - black,

Judicial department - raspberry,

Staff - white,

General Staff - black with white piping,

Others - dark green without piping.

There is to be coloured cloth braid on the blouse opening, from the top edge of the collar to the end of the opening.

Sleeve insignia as established by order of the commander of the 7th Ural Mountain Rifle Division, Major-General V. V. Golitsyn on 17 August 1918 (in accordance with Order No. 10 of the Military Department of the Provisional Siberian Government dated 24 July 1918).

These schemes are based on a photograph of officers of the Ekaterinburg Commandant's Office of 22 August 1918. Note the non-standard placement of the chevrons (with the angle pointing downwards) and the use of traditional five-pointed stars instead of the four-pointed ones required by the order.
