Insignia for the 6th Simbirsk RD: 21st Simbirsk, 22nd Simbirsk, 23rd Sengiley and 24th Buinsk Rifle Regiments, for the period from October 1918 to January 1919.
This division, which had previously been part of the Volga People's Army, became part of the Volga Army Group of the Western Front in October 1918. The insignia are given in accordance with Order No. 7 of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of 2 October 1918, which announced the uniform of the united Russian army. Judging by the photograph, the division's ranks used the previous codes from the People's Army, which were the same for all ranks and titles, when making shoulder-boards to replace the sleeve insignia.

Uniform of the 6th Simbirsk RD: 1 – in a bekesha short sheepskin coat and bashlyk hood;
2 – in tuzhurka short broadcloth coat; 3 – in polushubka short sheepskin coat;
4 – in military greatcoat.
Figure 2 is directly taken from the photograph.
With the reorganisation in January 1919 of the former 6th Simbirsk Rifle Division, which was merged with the Simbirsk Rifle Brigade, to become the 3rd Simbirsk Rifle Division of the 1st Volga Army Corps, the regiments were given new numbers and names; the previous insignia lost their relevance.
